Through hands-on demonstrations and thorough explanations from well-qualified instructors, you can learn the basics of fall protection and contribute to keeping your workspace safe. This class covers Fed & Cal OSHAʼs Fall Protection Regulations 1926.500 & 1670, along with discussing how these standards apply to both Construction and General Industry. We can also address Military Spec EM 385 fall protection competent person training and ANSI Z359 ‘Managed Fall Protection Standard’.

Who is required to get an OSHA Fall Protection Certification?

A Cal/OSHA Fall Protection Certification is required by OSHA for anyone who will be working above hazardous conditions. This includes machinery, waste, or anything else that can cause bodily harm. While your particular industry might not need a full-fledged OSHA Fall Protection Certification, those working more than 4 ft in the air generally still require basic fall protection training. Hawkeye Safety provides this basic training class, taught by experienced and qualified instructors.

OSHA Qualified Person Definition

According to OSHA, a qualified person must possess ONE of these two attributes:

  1. Possession of a recognized degree, certificate, or professional standing
  2. Extensive knowledge, training, and experience, having successfully demonstrated their ability to solve & resolve problems relating to the subject matter, work, or project

According to OSHA, a competent person is “one who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them”— 29 CFR 1926.32(f).

Therefore, a Cal/OSHA Fall Protection Competent Person is someone who has demonstrated that they understand the risks of falling, along with having knowledge of the methods used to reduce the risk of these falls initially. The fall protection training course at Hawkeye Safety covers all OSHA-mandated learning points, ensuring that your employees are fully prepared to work safely and prevent unnecessary accidents.

Competent Persons should be qualified to give fall protection training to any employees who are exposed to fall hazards on a worksite. To become a Trainer, you must first have previously attended and passed a Competent Person fall protection class, as is offered by Hawkeye Safety.
